Programme Notes: {AN} EeL

"This album represents the 2nd full length collaboration between PENDRO & {AN} EeL ~
There have been a number of projects back & forth for a number of years with Tim ( Pendro ) - during this time having managed to find that special " Secret Sauce " that makes for a great collaborative partner - A Sense of genial wonder, an awesome & luminous sound, and a smiling, Can-Do attitude - It has always been a real pleasure on my part these collaborations, and I think that pleasure is evident in the sounds we present here - A Full Bodied collaboration, of good fellowship.

Speaking of which, a theme that emerged during the creation of this album is that of fraternal orders & secret societies, sparked by the image supplied by Pendro. We had some fun digging into that dusty old coffin and again, I think this is apparent in the listening - So Here's to Hood Winks & The Sideshow Carnie Circus that is the international D.I.Y. Experimental Music Scene!"

Programme Notes: Pendro

“So, as it was… it was coming to the end of 2023 and I realised it had been just over two years since the last and debut collaboration album with Neal.
Seeing that he is forever busy with quite a few projects going on, I wondered if it was time for a second ‘{AN} Eel & Pendro’ album.

I then thought, why not ‘strike whilst the iron is hot’!
I duly set about pitching the idea and then sent Neal some sonic fare. Then I thought that all this was akin to sending some pots of paint of varying colours or even snippets of photos I’d gathered, for him to merge together in whatever way he saw fit.

Whilst this was going on, we also agreed on what the cover art would be for the album… which, after choosing said found illustration, led us to ‘discussing’ (via online messages), the long tradition of secret societies and eternal fraternities (!). How did they come into play? …and what purpose did they serve? …other than an elite gathering at a clubhouse in nearly every town located on both sides of the pond.
What is behind the bonding of the likes of the odd fellows and their ‘triple links’ ?… and various groups that don the aprons embellished with the set square and compass?

Whilst all these questions and thoughts were ruminating in our heads, Neal sent two batches of finished tracks.
He had hunkered down and re-shaped and re-sculpted said sonic pots and clippings, adding his magic(k) to the proceedings, as well as his unpredictable vocalisations that we all know and love.
All I can say is… raise a glass and join us… and ride into abyss, whether on the back of a goat or otherwise!”
